HIGH POINT, N.C. — Members of the First Wesleyan Church in Kernersville are mourning the loss of a fellow member who was killed in a crash in Florida Sunday.
Darrell Scruggs, 68, of High Point died after police said his SUV overturned when a van slammed into it. He was not wearing a seat belt.
He was a former pastor in Asheboro and Mount Airy. Scruggs was a pastor in the Wesleyan Church for 34 years and ministered at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church in Asheboro from 1988 to 1994.
Naomi Scruggs, 69, was taken to the hospital and is in serious condition, according to The Tampa Tribune.
A Miami woman, Rona Ramnarine, 33, is facing DUI manslaughter charges in connection to the wreck. Police said she was driving with three small children in the back of her van and failed to see the Scruggs’ SUV.
