HIGH POINT, N.C. — 10-year-old Gabby Arthur from High Point is preparing to compete in the Miss Amazing Pageant in Murphy on Saturday. It’s a pageant just for girls with disabilities.
At three days old, Gabby was diagnosed with Trisomy 14 Mosaic–a rare genetic disorder that causes intellectual and physical disabilities.
When Gabby was born, she spent three weeks in the NICU, and doctors gave her mom Linda, a list of things she would never do. Fast forward to today, and she says those things don’t matter.
“She’s a blessing. She’s taught me so much and she’s taught others. I mean, with her condition she thrives. She doesn’t let it get her down,” Linda says.
No matter what happens this weekend, she says the pageant is a way for Gabby to do something often reserved for little children.
If Gaby wins her age group at the pageant, she will compete in the national competition in Nebraska.
