Hermine downgraded to tropical storm; continues track east

Hurricane Hermine is no more. Just before 5 a.m. Friday morning, the hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm.

All hurricane watches and warnings were dropped, but tropical storm warnings remained in many states, including North Carolina.

As of 6 a.m. Friday morning, Hermine has winds up to 70 mph and is moving to the northeast.

By 2 a.m. Saturday morning it will be inland at Wrightsville Beach and will quickly move off the North Carolina coast by the afternoon.

FOX8 Meteorologist Emily Byrd expects conditions will improve throughout the weekend.

What to expect:

  • Heaviest rain to the south
  • Winds will be between 12-18 mph today and tomorrow
  • Weekend forecast: Increasing sunshine with diminishing winds
