GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Guilford County Board of Education will rename Aycock Middle School for the 2017-18 school year, according to a news release from Guilford County Schools.

The board’s Facilities Naming Nomination Committee reviewed research regarding the history of the name and life of Governor Aycock.

A public forum was held on July 26, allowing community members to comment on the possibility of renaming Aycock Middle School. A survey was also posted on the GCS website and made available at the school for additional comments and public input.

After receiving input from the public, the board voted Thursday to archive relevant history of the school and seek out new names for the school, the release said.
