GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The number of special needs kids has exploded over the last few decades.  Autism diagnoses, alone, have gone from 1 in 10,00 to 1 in 68.

That has put a strain on school staffs and budgets, leaving many families feeling their children aren’t getting what they need.

So a group of families in Guilford County decided to do it, themselves — create a school, from scratch, dedicated to teaching children who have autism.  And, in this edition of the Buckley Report, see why they think Lionhart Academy will change their children’s lives.

There will be an informational meeting about Lionhart Academy on Friday at 7 p.m. at Hunter Hills Evangelical Friends Church, 1201 Merritt Drive in Greensboro.
