GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford County Schools voted unanimously Tuesday night to begin discussions on possibly renaming Aycock Middle School.

A public forum will be held at Aycock Middle School after the school year ends.

An input survey will be placed on the GCS website and the school board will appoint a subcommittee for other naming proposals.

Naming chair Amos Quick said regardless of people’s positions on Charles B. Aycock’s name on school buildings, the school district is “a little behind” in regards to other school boards that have started the discussion and made decisions to remove it.

Quick said he feels that it is “inappropriate to hold up someone who spent so much time to hold us back.”
