COLFAX, N.C.-- Distributing goods along the East Coast is big business in the Piedmont. About 10 percent of our workforce is a part of the logistics field. Getting training to land a job in global logistics has gotten a lot easier.

Guilford Technical Community College is signing up students at its new Global Logistics Center in Colfax. Associate Vice President for Student Support Alison Wiers says the large classroom space will give students the training they need to work at a distribution center or warehouse.

Thomasville's Warehouse Design donated the $40,000 worth of equipment that fills the warehouse.

Other features of $25 million Cameron Campus in Colfax include general education classrooms, meeting space for up to 250 people and it’s a LEED certified building.

Sarah Davis will be attending the Cameron Campus in the fall. For her, the most important feature is the school's location.

"I don't have a license,” she said. “It's two miles from my house so it's perfect."

Along with recruiting global logistic students, Wiers says the Colfax campus will bring in students from northwest Guilford County.

"We realize this area of Guilford County was not being served as well as it could. We have a lot of students that could be reached if we built at campus here,” said Wiers.

Stephen Ross will also take classes at the Colfax campus. He hopes the location will be kind on his wallet and time.

"The location is great and I am trying to work and go to school,” he said. “This will help me save on gas and give me extra time during the week."

Classes at GTCC will begin Aug. 18.
