HOUSTON — Criminals stooped to a new low Wednesday afternoon, stealing groceries out of a wrecked vehicle moments after the driver was killed in a crash, according to KTRK.

Houston police told KTRK a mother behind the wheel of a Toyota SUV collided with another car, crashed into a tree and died on impact.

Before help could arrive at the scene of the crash, thieves pounced. Witnesses told police they saw people stealing groceries out of the front seat of the dead woman’s SUV.

The woman’s two sons, ages 6 an 4, were also in the vehicle at the time of the wreck. KTRK reports that they were wearing seat belts but were not sitting in car seats. Both were rushed to a local hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe the woman was at fault in the accident and was not wearing her seat belt.
