HIGH POINT, N.C. -- High Point's Interim Parks and Recreation Director Lee Tillery constantly hears the same concerns. There is a one-mile gap in the Greenway system.

"We get a lot an inquiries day in and day out. A lot of people use the Greenway. It promotes fitness and getting out with your family and utilizing the Greenway."

Currently High Point has nine miles of Greenway. But when High Point adds the other a mile link, Tillery says it will bring High Point and Greensboro together.

"In our field, Parks and Recreation, there's been a big push for trails, greenways and connectivity over the last five to eight years."

The High Point Greenway will be extended from University Park on Deep River Road to the Piedmont Environmental Center on Penny Road. From the Piedmont Environmental Center, the High Point Greenway will join the Bicentennial Greenway. The Bicentennial Greenway travels into Greensboro.

High Point plans to pay for the $2 million Greenway project with a $500,000 matching state grant and bonds.
