GREENSBORO, N.C. — A teen has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the Dec. 2 shooting deaths on Bragg Street, according to Greensboro Police Department Public Information Officer Susan Danielsen.

Chauncey Jamal Slade, 17, of Greensboro, was served two warrants for first-degree murder on Friday in connection with the homicides of Ernest Lemark Cuthbertson, 23, and Jeffrey Devine Hampton, 44.

At approximately 11 p.m. Dec. 2, Greensboro police officers were in the Ray Warren neighborhood on an unrelated call when they heard shots fired. Upon locating the crime scene near 1008 E. Bragg St., they found Cuthbertson fatally shot. Hampton was also shot in the incident. He was transported to Moses Cone Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Detectives have learned that the shooting followed a dispute among Slade, Cuthbertson and Hampton, and others, Danielsen said. The nature of the dispute, along with any motive for the shooting, remains unclear. Police have determined that Slade knew Cuthbertson before shooting.

Slade was served the warrants while confined in the High Point Jail after being arrested on Dec. 15 for stealing property from several automobiles earlier that same day. He is also charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling for the Dec. 2 incident.

Detectives are still investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (336) 373-1000.
