GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A popular Greensboro restaurant has topped a recent list of mom and pop establishments in North Carolina "that serve home cooked meals to die for."

The list, compiled by Only In Your State, ranked the restaurants based on their family-friendliness, tasty Southern food and comfortable atmospheres.

Smith Street Diner, located at 438 Battleground Avenue, Greensboro, took the No. 1 spot on the list.

Of Smith Street Diner, Only In Your State said:

"Smith Street Diner has mastered the art of a homestyle meal, so much so, they're basically a Greensboro landmark. Smith Street serves up generous portions of classic country fare. Besides the whimsical pig portraits on the walls, the decor is simple -- but the heart of Smith Street is its hearty breakfast options 'served 8 days a week.'"

Other Piedmont Triad restaurants that made the list were Hillbilly Hideaway in Walnut Cove (No. 5) and Snappy Lunch in Mount Airy (No. 6).
