GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro Police Department is warning driving to stay alert while shopping to avoid small collisions.

Officer Ben Wingfield said the most common reason for collisions this time of year is when drivers are searching for a parking spot within a parking lot or when drivers make abrupt stops for pedestrians or other vehicles.

"Keep a good following distance, keep your pacing right and always avoid distractions such as your phone or even decorations on the side around you," Wingfield said.

Police also remind shoppers to lock their doors and hide their bags from view to avoid larcenies and breaking and entering.
