Greensboro Man Killed While Trying to Flag Down Traffic

A man trying to flag down traffic died after being struck by a car Friday night in Greensboro, police said.

John Nicholas Allred, 27, of Greensboro, allegedly stepped into the eastbound lane of Joseph M. Bryan Blvd. around 11 p.m. when he was hit.

The vehicle that struck him was headed east in the outside lane, police said.

Allred was pronounced dead after being taken to Moses Cone Hospital.

Police said they do not know why Allred was flagging down traffic. Other details were not released.
