GREENSBORO, N.C. – A Greensboro man who barricaded himself inside his home during a police shootout has been found dead inside the residence.
Christopher Tokazowski, 43, appears to have died from a gunshot wound, according to Greensboro police.
Police said the investigation is in the early stages and it is not currently known if the gunshot was from police or if it was self-inflicted.
Greensboro police were called to Tokazowski’s home at 1606 Efland Drive where Tokazowski exchanged gunfire with officers, according to officials.
Tokazowski was found dead in the home at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after police said he stopped communicating with negotiators. He was discovered by members of the Special Response Team. No other people were in the home.
The State Bureau of Investigation has been called to conduct the investigation, since it is possible the death may have been the result of an officer-involved shooting, according to police.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative duties while the investigation progresses.
The Greensboro Police Department’s Professional Standards Division will simultaneously conduct an administrative investigation to determine if officers followed the Department’s directives.
