GREENSBORO, N.C. — The family of a man killed in a Greensboro shooting earlier this year gathered Saturday for what would have been his 29th birthday.

Authorities said McLaurin died after being shot during a disturbance April 25 in the parking lot of the Margate on Cone Apartments on East Cone Boulevard.

McLaurin was a student at GTCC with no criminal record. His family talked on Saturday about how gun violence has changed their lives.

“And I just think that people don’t realize that when you have a family member that dies so violently, everybody dies.  A piece of everybody dies,” said Christine McLaurin, the victim’s sister.

Police charged Jovon Derrell Clarke and Charles Dean Pierce in McLaurin’s murder.
