GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Greensboro City Council is considering setting up a citywide alert system in case of an emergency.
The city is looking at three companies that would provide notifications via text message, email or automated call. The idea is to make sure everyone has enough notice to get someplace safe before a storm hits.
Councilman Zack Matheny said one of the companies they're looking at is offering the service for $5,000 a year.
"For $5,000 a year, certainly we can fit that in our budget without causing too much pain," Matheny said.
It's not known when council will make a final decision.
