GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro City Council considered two proposals Tuesday night, both to add a grocery store to the old Bessemer Shopping Center.

The New Bessemer Associates would fix up the shopping center, while the city maintained ownership of the property.

The Renaissance Center of Greensboro would also renovate the center, and own the property as well.

Dozens of concerned citizens said they are tired of waiting, and want to see something done with the empty center in their neighborhood.

"We have to wonder, why don't they take some of the money, and fix up the eye sore that I see every day," a concerned resident asked.

The only store currently in the shopping center is a Family Dollar.

As of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, the City Council was still debating the issue.
