INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Greensboro is one of six cities which could host the 2016 U.S. Olympic team trial in diving.

USA Diving, in partnership with the United States Olympic Committee, announced the potential sites on Thursday.

Greensboro will be competing against Atlanta, Ga., Indianapolis, Ind., Minneapolis, Minn., Riverside, Calif. and Tucson, Ariz.

The trials will determine which divers will represent the United States on the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team in Rio de Janeiro.

Authorities said a finalist will be selected on Oct. 21 and the host city is expected to be named in December.

Officials said a committee of USA Diving staff and board members will visit each city to help make a decision.

“We are thrilled to see so many incredible cities express an interest in hosting our Olympic Trials,” said USA Diving President and CEO Linda Paul, in a prepared statement. “The Trials are such a special event for us, and we are looking forward to seeing what these cities can offer as we aim to make the 2016 Trials our best yet.”
