BEAUFORT, N.C. – The Coast Guard has spotted a great white shark eating a dead whale off the coast of North Carolina, according to WNCN.

The crew from Fort Macon Coast Guard Station saw the shark feeding on a dead whale Tuesday off Beaufort Inlet.

BM1 Jeremy Ronzio took the pictures and video, according to WITN. He said they estimate the shark to be about 18 feet long, while the whale was about 12-14 feet long.

Sharks frequent the Beaufort Inlet and Pamlico Sound during different times in the year, according to some East Carolina University researchers.
