CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. — A grand jury indicted Michael Slager on a murder charge in the shooting death of Walter Scott on Monday, according to WCSC.

At an 11 a.m. news conference Solicitor Scarlett Wilson announced that the grand jury returned the murder indictment against Slager early Monday morning.

Wilson could face a sentence of 30 years to life in prison without parole if convicted, according to WCSC.

A trial date has not been set.

Scott’s family said their attorneys are scheduled to speak later on today.

Scott was shot and killed on April 4 after he fled his vehicle during a traffic stop in North Charleston.

A bystander took video footage of Slager shooting Scott in the back as he ran away. The video led to Slager’s arrest followed by a murder charge.
