Graham man charged with financial exploitation of disabled or elderly person

GRAHAM, N.C. — Police have arrested a man in connection with financial exploitation of a disabled or elderly person.

Michael T. Shoffner, 44, of Graham, is charged with fraud by way of financial exploitation of a disabled or elderly person.

According to police, Shoffner fraudulently acquired $69,112 from a victim between Dec. 18, 2012, and March 28, 2013.

Shoffner was also arrested in September 2013 on similar charges for taking $22,475 from the same victim. He is currently awaiting trial on that charge.

Shoffner was arrested at the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office without incident and was placed under an additional secured bond of $200,000.
