HIGH POINT, N.C. — Give A Kid A Coat, an annual program that solicits coat donations from area residents to donate to needy children and adults throughout the Piedmont area, kicked off its 29th campaign on Oct. 9 from 5 to 10 a.m. More than 550 coats were collected at the live event.

The kickoff was held at the A Cleaner World located at 2527 Eastchester Drive in High Point.  FOX8 and 1075KZL both broadcasted live during the kickoff.  Hardees and Chick fil A provided breakfast to folks that donate coats, and The Salvation Army served hot chocolate and coffee.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the 2015 Give A Kid A Coat campaign may do so by dropping off a coat at any A Cleaner World location beginning Friday, October 9, 2015, through Saturday, November 14, 2015.  Coats will be cleaned and repaired free of charge, then given to The Salvation Army for distribution.

“Every child deserves a warm winter coat that they can be proud to wear in the cold months ahead,” said Captain Bobby Jackson of The Salvation Army of High Point.

Last year, 17,832 coats were distributed to families in need.  Since its inception in 1987, Give A Kid A Coat has collected, cleaned, distributed more than 806,493 coats. Families in need of coats can contact their local Salvation Army office to register and for distribution information.

This year Give A Kid A Coat has again issued a challenge to area elementary schools.  From Oct. 9 through Nov. 7, area elementary schools should encourage parents and students to check their closets for coats.  Those wishing to participate must drop off coats at A Cleaner World. The donor should indicate which school they want to receive credit.  A Cleaner World will keep track of the points.  One point will be credited per coat up to 10 points maximum per family.  Points will be tallied on Nov. 9, and winners will be announced on Nov. 10 on the FOX8 Morning Show and WKZL 107.5 radio.  Prizes will be awarded as follows:  first place $500, second place $400, third place $300, fourth place $200, and fifth place $100.  All prizes will be made payable to the winning school’s PTA.

Give A Kid A Coat is sponsored by A Cleaner World, FOX8, 1075KZL, Campers Inn RV and The Salvation Army.  For additional information, please call Dianne Black at 336-841-4188.
