CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A girl who recently received a kidney transplant sent 13-year-old Alj Jefferies a sweet video before his heart transplant on March 9.

The Burlington teen had been in the hospital for nearly 100 days waiting for a heart transplant.

On Sunday, the Teamalj fighting heart disease Facebook page posted a sweet video of the girl, Cassie, who just received a life-saving transplant.

Cassie was at UNC Children’s Hospital recovering from a kidney transplant when Alj first arrived, according to the post.

While recovering, Cassie made Alj lots of get well cards to help him feel better.

When Cassie’s mom saw Alj’s story on the news they decided to reach out and offer up some encouragement.

In the video, Cassie tells Alj not to be scared and says the anesthesia makes you feel like you are taking a really quick nap.

She also tells Alj that he will probably have to take a lot of medicine after the surgery, but says it will all be worth it when he goes home to his family.

Alj was able to see the video before he went into surgery last week.

According to a Sunday Facebook post, Alj isn’t out of the woods just yet.

The teen’s parents asked everyone for prayers after getting an update on their son’s condition.

“Alj’s kidney function has gotten worse and he’s retaining fluid and swelling , but this sometimes comes with the transplanted organ . They are giving him nitrous oxide to help open pathways in his lungs , so that he can breath[e] more comfortable.”

You can follow Alj’s recovery on his Facebook page.
