EDEN, N.C. — You’re more likely to do something if you’ve got a teammate encouraging you along the way.

That’s the idea behind “Get Fit Eden,” a 10-week program that encourages people to exercise for thirty minutes, three times a week.

“School’s out for the summer, so it can be a whole family thing to get fit,” said Brittany Coleman, business community manager for the Eden Chamber of Commerce. “That’s why we do it June, July and August.”

This is the third year for Get Fit Eden, which is sponsored jointly by the City of Eden and the Chamber of Commerce. It’s open to anyone, not just Eden residents, and those who sign up are eligible for free fitness classes, prizes and gym memberships at the YMCA.

Judy White, 69, has participated in Get Fit Eden every year.

“The healthier I can stay, the better I am for my grandchildren,” she said. “And they’re my life.”

White said the prizes and free classes are a great incentive to attract people who may not normally exercise. She said if she can do it, at age 69 and with an oxygen tank, so can you.

“I’ve had people tell me ‘You’re my inspiration,'” she said. “‘I keep coming because you keep coming.'”

To register, you must sign up in person at the Eden Chamber of Commerce at 678 South Van Buren Road.
