GREELEY, Colo. -- A garbage man returned a small Christmas gift to a family and now they are repaying his act of kindness.

While cleaning up under the Christmas tree, a gift card got lost in the shuffle at the Edwards home.

Brenda Edwards’ $50 JCPenney gift card ended up in the trash before anyone realized it was gone.

But enter Jimmy James, who works for a disposal company.

“I was just dumping the cart in the back of the truck and seen the card on top of the pile of trash,” he said.

James rescued it and handed it to his driver to check the balance, which was $50.

"I had him put it in my wallet for me and then when we got off work that day I went by Jason (Edwards') house,” James said.

Jason Edwards was shocked someone took the time to personally return the card.

In return, Edwards asked FOX31 Denver to present James with an envelope containing $75 cash. On the outside he wrote, “To Jimmy, Thank you for your honesty.”

When FOX31 presented James with the envelope, he was stunned.

“Oh man. We didn’t need nothing back,” James said. “That’s awesome man. That helps a lot. They don’t know how much that helps. I don’t even know what to say. Christmas time, you know, you’re lucky to get a ten dollar tip, let alone … Wow man, I’m touched.”
