LUMBERTON, N.C. — A horse-drawn caisson carrying a flag-draped casket marked the funeral procession for a Lumberton police officer who was shot and killed when he tried to serve a warrant on a man.
Friends, family and police officers turned out Tuesday for the funeral of Master Police Officer Jeremiah Montgomery Goodson Jr. at Lumberton High School.The 33-year-old Goodson was off-duty when he shot and killed July 17 while trying to serve a warrant on 27-year-old Marques Brown of Whiteville.
Brown is charged with first-degree murder.
Goodson is survived by his wife Lametria, who is due to have the couple’s second child. A memorial fund has been established for his family at State Employees Credit Union.
Goodson had been employed with the Lumberton Police Department since June 2006.
