GREENSBORO, N.C. — Generation Opportunity, a nonprofit that advocates for fewer government regulations, organized a “Free the Brews” event at Pig Pounder Brewery in Greensboro Thursday evening.

The goal of the event is to draw attention to outdated state regulations that restrict micro-breweries in North Carolina. One example is the three tier system of permitting, which requires brewers, distributors and retailers to exist as separate entities in order to prevent conflicts of interest.

Marty Kotis, owner of Pig Pounder Brewery, and Erik Lars Myers, owner of Mystery Brewing Co., were panelists at the event Thursday.

Generation Opportunity also has a “Free the Brews” event scheduled at Raleigh Brewing Company Friday.
