BURLINGTON, N.C. — Four train cars derailed in Burlington on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened on a spur line along Park Road Extension at about 12:15 p.m., according to police. This is not the main line and is not blocking Amtrak.

Park Road Extension will be closed until a crane, on its way from Virginia, can get the cars back on the tracks, police said. The cars are expected to be moved back onto the tracks by Wednesday morning.

Police said the cars were headed to CNC Recycling and Commercial Metal, located at 2600 Park Rd Ext., Elon.

A portion of the rail gave way on private property, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The area where the incident happened is in the Burlington city limits but has an Elon postal address.
