WILMINGTON, N.C. — More than 30 helicopters belonging to an 82nd Airborne Division brigade used in Afghanistan are in port in Wilmington.
Soldiers will reassemble the choppers before flying the aircraft back to Fort Bragg over the next two weeks
The aircraft include Apache, Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters.
Brigade commander Col. T.J. Jamison on Monday apologized to Wilmington area residents in advance for the noise when the choppers go back to Fort Bragg.
The helicopters were flown in eastern Afghanistan during the brigade’s deployment during the past year. The brigade deployed more than 2,500 Fort Bragg troopers to Afghanistan.
The brigade flew more than 175,000 hours and completed more than 2,500 medical missions during the deployment.
