RALEIGH, N.C. — A former North Carolina teacher has been charged with a sex crime involving a student.
WTVD reported that Ronald Lee Chewning, 25, of Raleigh, was arrested Friday and charged with felony sex offense with a student.
Wake County Public School System spokesperson Lisa Luten told ABC11 Chewning resigned from his position on Tuesday, prior to his arrest. The suspect had been a teacher at Broughton High School.
Chewning was a scientific and technical visualization teacher at Broughton since August 2014, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“All our staff uphold an obligation to report any possible information we may have about this charge. We have and will continue to fully comply with that obligation,” Luten said in a statement. “We are currently conducting an internal investigation of the incident, along with cooperating fully with Raleigh Police Department’s investigation.”
