WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Kellie Pickler said she is looking forward to a trip to her home state. At 7 p.m. Monday, she plans to perform at the Grandstand at the Dixie Classic Fair.
The 26-year-old was a 2006 contestant on “American Idol” and has gone on to a thriving country music career, recording three albums to date and touring almost every weekend.
“We bounce from arenas to fairs and festivals,” she said by phone from her home in Nashville, according to The Winston-Salem Journal. “We play all the time. Any time there’s someone that’s going to sit and watch us, we’ll sing.”
She didn’t visit the Dixie Classic Fair when she was a kid, saying that she attended some smaller regional fairs. She said she loves playing at fairs and festivals.
“It’s more of an intimate setting I think, more so than singing at a coliseum, where it’s hard to feel like you’re really connecting with everyone,” she said.
She said she is particularly looking forward to her stop in the Triad, since she will be close enough to her hometown of Albemarle that family and friends will be able to come out to the show.
