WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A former attorney was indicted Tuesday on multiple charges including embezzlement.
Robert Keller Leonard, 72, of Winston-Salem, was indicted on three counts of embezzlement and one count of obtaining property by false pretense, according to a news release from Winston-Salem police.
Since July 2015, Winston-Salem police’s Criminal Investigations Division has been investigating reports of embezzlement involving Leonard, the release said.
The division’s Financial Crimes Section has conducted an extensive investigation into allegations of an embezzlement of over $600,000 from a private citizen’s trust fund, the release said.
Leonard was alleged to have converted money from the victim’s trust fund to his personal use.
Leonard pleaded guilty and was sentenced to serve 58 to 82 months. He was also ordered to pay $300,000 in restitution.
