ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A former Elon youth pastor has been charged with multiple counts of sexual misconduct with a teenager from his church during a two year period, according to the Times-News.

Michael Wayne Light, 34, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., turned himself in to the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office on Monday and faces three counts of statutory rape and eight counts of statutory sexual offense.

Light was a youth pastor at Straightway Baptist Church when the incidents allegedly occurred between March 2005 and March 2007. The victim was a female in the age range of 13 to 15 years old.

The allegations were recently reported to the sheriff’s office and an investigation was opened.

The victim reportedly emailed the pastor of a church in Tennessee where Light was most recently working and told him about the sexual misconduct.

Light was held in the Alamance County jail under a $200,000 bond but has been released on bond.
