EAST BEND, N.C. — A 62-year-old Forbush High School teacher has been charged after allegedly assaulting a handicapped student in her class and then deleting incriminating statements.

Judy Ellison Wilburn, of Pfafftown, was arrested by the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office on Friday and charged with one misdemeanor count of assault on a handicapped person and one felony count of common law obstruction of justice.

The alleged incident happened on Feb. 4.

Wilburn was given an unsecured $5,000 bond with a court date of Feb. 11.
