SANFORD, Fla — A Florida resident called 911 to report a monkey was sitting on top of a mailbox and eating mail.

When police arrived, the monkey was climbing a street sign. Officers used a water bottle to “lure” the animal towards their patrol car, according to WFTV. But then it jumped on top of the vehicle and started to pull off the molding.

Eventually, “Zeek’s” owner, a nearby resident, was reunited with his macaque monkey. He has a permit and is licensed to own the monkey. Zeek somehow escaped by twisting parts of his cage.

“It’s concerning of course because it’s close to your house, it’s a wild animal,” resident Sherry Meehen said.
