PALM BAY, Fla. — A third child has died after police said a Florida mother killed her other two children on Friday.

According to USA Today, 5-month-old Christopher Swist had been on life support throughout the weekend following the attack. He has succumbed to his injuries.

The children’s mother, identified by police as Jessica Lacey McCarty, was already charged with two counts of murder in connection with her children’s deaths. She was also facing an attempted murder charge while the 5-month-old was in critical condition. That charge will likely be upgraded to murder, USA Today reported.

McCarty, 33, is accused of attacking her 7-year-old daughter, 6-year-old son and 5-month-old son with a knife on Friday evening. Arrest records indicate she sent graphic photos of the blood in the house to the father of one of her children and left behind a note “To my family,” saying she was “sorry for what she had to do.”

Authorities have not determined a motive for the attack.

McCarty reportedly called 911 after the attack, saying that her three children were dead in the home and that she had slit her wrist and had a firearm.

She is currently under special observation in the Brevard County (Fla.) Jail.
