HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Firefighters battled a fire at a vacant home Monday morning on Vail Avenue.

The fire broke out around 1:20 a.m.

The home was heavily damaged.

The trees surrounding the home also caught fire, but no other homes were damaged in the blaze.

Although the cause of the fire is still unknown, firefighters said they believe vagrants likely started the fire.  However, they said they haven't come across evidence of homeless people there so far.

Tax records show the home was delinquent.

Firefighters said the home did not have electricity.

The cause of the fire will likely remain undetermined because the home is unsafe for crews to go inside.
