CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — Firefighters responded to a fire at an arcade on the boardwalk in Carolina Beach Thursday morning.

A large dark plume of smoke was billowing from the building where crews arrived around 11:30 a.m.

Officials say no one was inside when the fire started.

Crews are working to contain the fire.

Witnesses tell WWAY the fire destroyed the arcade, which is next to Frank’s Pizza. Frank’s did sustain some damage, but the extent is unclear at this time.

Firefighters say Britt’s Donuts, perhaps the best known of the Boardwalk businesses, was not damaged.
