LOUISBURG, N.C. — Firefighters from across North Carolina gathered Saturday in Franklin County to pay their respects to one of their fallen brothers.

WTVD reported that a visitation was held in Louisburg for John Gupton. The 24-year-old volunteer firefighter in Justice was killed Tuesday while responding to a call.

Franklin County Sheriff Jerry Jones said Gupton failed to negotiate a tanker truck around a curve in the road and the truck flipped. Gupton was killed instantly.

The Sheriff said troopers do not believe speed was a factor in the crash, and the cause remains under investigation.

Gupton has been a volunteer firefighter since 2009.

His funeral is scheduled for Sunday.
