GREENSBORO, N.C. — Things have truly changed in just a generation.

When most of today’s parents were still young, in the 1970s, fewer than one in three married mothers worked. Now, more than two in three do; and, add to that the fact that the number of children in single-parent households has more than doubled since then and you have millions of parents scrambling to find someone — or someplace — that can be a “partner” in helping raise their children.

There are 11 families in Greensboro that know that feeling well.

In this edition of the Buckley Report, see how they handled a situation so many people all across America face: how to make sure your children have the right day care and pre-school environment. But their story is special, because of what happened to them, unexpectedly, one spring day 21 years ago.
