WENTWORTH, N.C. — The family of a prominent couple killed in 2012 sat in court Wednesday next to the father of the man accused in the fatal shootings.
Together they cried and put their arms around each other as Rockingham County District Judge Tony Grogan announced that, due to the seriousness of the charges, 28-year-old Jose Silvano Alvarez Jr. could face life in prison or even the death penalty.
Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page announced late Tuesday night that deputies had arrested Alvarez on two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Douglas “Troy” and LaDonna Moseley French at their Pinewood Road home in the Bethany community of Reidsville.
Alvarez, of 2811 Cottage Place, Apt. A, Greensboro, works as a landscaper and is the brother-in-law of the couple’s daughter Whitley French. She was dating his brother John Alvarez at the time of her parents’ deaths. They married this May.
