THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Police and the SBI are investigating after a person died in a fire pit outside a home in Thomasville.

Crime scene investigators are looking for answers to how the person died. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Police got the call of a fire just after midnight Sunday to Reid Street where they found the person dead in the fire pit. Investigators are still trying to figure out whether the death was accidental or intentional.

Police said that five people were questioned about the incident and later released. The investigation is ongoing.
