RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A deadly crash was reported in Randolph County on Wednesday afternoon.

At 2:25 p.m., State Highway Patrol troopers responded when they were told about a crash on US 64 near Iron Mountain Road in Randolph County.

A 42-year-old Randleman man was going east on US 64 in a 2006 Mercedes Benz. A 33-year-old Asheboro man was a passenger in the Mercedes.

Wanda Cox Allred, 74, of Franklinville, was going west on US 64 in a 2019 Honda CR-V.

The man crossed the center line and hit Allred’s vehicle head-on.

Allred died on-scene, troopers say.

The Randleman man has life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. The passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation.

All westbound lanes of US 64 near Iron Mountain Road were closed for approximately two hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 4:57 p.m.
