Woman killed in crash on East Gate City Boulevard in Greensboro identified


GREENSBORO, N.C. — One person was killed in a crash on East Gate City Boulevard on Thursday afternoon, according to Greensboro police.

The crash happened between Martin Street and Bennett Street around 1 p.m.

Pamela Denise Tonkins, 57, of Greensboro, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala on East Gate City Boulevard when she ran off the right side of the road near Macon Street causing the vehicle to roll over. 

Tonkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was shut down for about two hours and has since reopened.

There is no word on what caused the crash.
