KATY, Texas — Fire officials are working to determine whether a 2-year-old’s light-up sneakers are to blame for a weekend car fire, according to KPRC.
Attila and Jovan Virag told KPRC that they bought their son’s “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” shoes at a Payless store last fall.
Friday night, their son kicked off his shoes in the car and left them.
When they went outside Saturday morning they found the backseat had caught fire.
“I saw the shoe on the ground with the wires sticking up and it was a lightbulb, I knew immediately that’s what it was,” Jovan Virag told KPRC.
Now, the couple said they believe a lithium-ion battery in the shoe may have caused the fire.
The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is still working to determine what caused the fire.
