Facebook announced Tuesday that it will be teaming up with National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to alert communities about missing children through AMBER Alerts.
The new initiative will post AMBER Alerts to people’s news feeds based on their location and the area where the child went missing. Law enforcement will determine the target area for posts.
Once local authorities determine a case qualifies as and AMBER Alert, Facebook will send out any available information such as a photograph, a license plate number, the name and description of the child and suspected abductor.
From there, the Facebook community can share the AMBER Alert directly or share the National Center’s missing child poster.
The posts will not trigger a notifications on mobile phones.
