WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A local family is thanking Brenner Children’s Hospital for helping save their son’s life.

The Raymer family says their 6-year-old son Mack was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect before he was even born.

He also has a genetic disorder and was born prematurely.

The family says the boy is now happy and healthy due to medical and emotional support from the hospital.

“He is doing unbelievably well," said Casey Raymer, Mack’s mother.

The family will take part in a new social media campaign for the hospital called “Extra Mile 4 Brenner.”

People upload videos of themselves doing an activity and challenge others to do the same, each time donating to the hospital.

The goal is to raise awareness of all the good the hospital is doing in the community.
