RALEIGH, N.C. — An ex-North Carolina Democratic Party staffer has filed a lawsuit accusing the party and its chairman of breaking a settlement agreement through false statements related to sexual harassment allegations the staffer made.

Adriadn Ortega sued Thursday in Wake County court, charging that the party and Chairman David Parker committed libel and slander at an April news conference when he addressed the fallout over the harassment case at party headquarters.

Records show Ortega accused then-party Executive Director Jay Parmley of sexual harassment and being fired in retaliation. Parmley resigned but denied harassment occurred.

Ortega said Parker and the party didn’t comply with settlement terms. He is seeking monetary damages, an apology and assurance the settlement will be paid.

A party spokesman and attorney didn’t immediately respond to the lawsuit.
