SALISBURY, N.C. — Authorities said an inmate who escaped prison in Rowan County was captured a few miles from where he escaped.

Officials said Jonathan Dixon was found and captured around 10:35 a.m. Tuesday in a building on Auction Drive, just off I-85 in Salisbury.

Members of the Prison Emergency Response Team said they were searching the area when they noticed a broken window at a local business.  After entering the building, authorities said the escaped inmate surrendered without resistance.

Dixon escaped Sunday night from the minimum-security unit of Piedmont Correctional Institution, according to the Department of Public Safety. Officials said they noticed Dixon missing around 4 a.m. Monday.

Authorities said the suspect will face charges for escape from prison in addition to charges for break-ins and burglaries he committed while on the run.
