From easy things like turning down the brightness on your TV screen or signing up to get free CFLs all the way to installing a programmable thermostat or spray foaming your attic. Whether you’re just getting started or just getting started on installing a solar water heater, Duke Energy has energy (and money saving) tips you can use right now on their new YoutilitySM site.

Here are a few tips to get you started – check out to learn more!

Change your filter, change your life. Is it snowing inside? Or do your air filters need to be changed? A dirty furnace filter means your system is working harder than it needs to circulate air. Which means it’s using more energy. Not only can you save money by replacing your filter regularly, you can cut down on dust around house. Clean less, save on tissues and save energy. That’s our kind of tip.

Try a smart power strip. Wasting energy is just dumb. Use a smart power strip to make saving energy easy by automatically turning off the power when devices plugged into them aren’t in use. Best of all, it’s another thing you don’t have to remember.

Give it a little nudge. The only place you’ll feel the difference is in your wallet. You can save as much as 3% on your power bill for each degree you lower your thermostat. If you can actually tell the difference just remember a sweater and some flannel sheets can really help you save.
